Whisper Aire 2000 whisper quiet

Some of you may remember how at the same time I started this site, I also installed the Whisper Aire 2000 whole house fan. In that post I complained about how it was a bit nosier than I expected it to be. Well I’m able to tell you now that the fan is so quiet you wouldn’t even know that it was on.

Well, that could be that it’s just not working. I used it about a month ago without any problem and now it doesn’t seem to do anything at all. I’ve contacted the company but their website doesn’t even list the product anymore. That’s not a good sign. It makes it seem like they’ve had so many problems with this product that they just want to pretend that it never even existed. Or, at the very least, that they had nothing to do with it.

In any event, I am currently cranky about the whole thing. I went up into the attic and made sure there were no visible problems with the wiring and what not. It’s on the same circuit as my internet so it must have power. I even flipped the thing off, waited and flipped it back on to see if maybe some breaker needed to be reset. The thing is still dead.

I don’t know if this is a sign of really good support or a sign that they are conceding that the fan has some problems but… I called Airvent this morning and they are going to ship me a new whole house fan. It was pretty much no questions asked. I told them the symptoms and they just asked for my address and shipped out a new one. It took about 5 mins of my time and most of that was while I was on hold.

Well, I got the new fan. They had the right shipping address on the invoice but put the wrong shipping address on the label. I replaced it on Saturday and it was a pain. I completely forgot that they use flat headed screws for mounting the fan to the frame. Why would you use a flat head in an application that requires screwing something into wood? Pure evil.

Anyway, I got the old one out and the new one in and I am still having problems. The fan randomly turns itself off after it has been runnning for some amount of time. It can’t be due to a back pressure or something like that because it does it on the lowest setting with the slider open. The old fan, before it died, would run for hours w/o any problems

I am having the same problems with the fan stopping randomly, usually after about 30 seconds. I called the airvent people and they said I did’nt have good enough attic ventalation. When I proved to them that was not the case they dropped the ball and here I sit with a $600.00 piece of crap in my ceiling. to top it off the thing starts and runs in the middle of the night waking up my whole family.

I’ve found that I can delay it turning itself off by setting the timer to turn off automatically after 4 hours. It stays on for 4 hours and turns off. I think there is some sort of board design flaw on the current fans. My last one didn’t have any problems until it just stopepd working one day.

I have one and it turns off when any compact flouressent buld is turned on. I am pretty sure the problem is th RF remote.

Someone wrote to me and suggested that I call Airvent and ask for a shield to put the remote in. They indicated that it fixed their problem. So, I called and they are sending one. I’m surprised they didn’t send one the last time I called and complained about this.

Just to add: Whisper Aire should be sued to stop using the word Whisper. I can only use it on low, else it’s so loud you can hear yoursel throughout the house, not just near the fan. My wife can’t stand to hear it at all be we paid $600+ for and it’s going to get used!
